Elemental Surf Lodge
House Rules
61 to 63 Tower Road, Newquay, Cornwall TR7 1LX
+44 (0)1637 808 800
We run a busy lodge with up to seventy people staying at once. These rules keep it working for everyone. Please read them, and make sure the rest of your group has too.
1. Arrivals and Departures
Check-in is between 4:00pm and 6:30pm. If you are going to be later than that, ring ahead so we can staff it.
Check-out is by 10:00am. Please strip nothing, but do return all keys to the drop-off point.
Late check-out must be agreed in advance. Charges apply.
2. Noise and Quiet Hours
Quiet hours are 10:00pm to 7:00am Sunday to Thursday, and 10:30pm to 7:00am Friday and Saturday.
Quiet hours means quiet. Voices down in corridors, doors closed gently, no music through speakers.
We have neighbours on both sides and other groups in the building. Sound travels through this place more than you would expect.
Please keep noise down outside the front of the building at all times, particularly when arriving late or heading out.
3. Smoking, Vaping and Fire Safety
No smoking or vaping anywhere inside the building. This includes rooms, corridors, communal areas and bathrooms. Breaching this means immediate eviction without refund.
Smoke outside, away from doorways and windows, and use the bins provided.
No candles, incense, or anything with a naked flame.
No cooking or heating appliances in bedrooms.
Do not cover, obstruct or tamper with smoke detectors, fire doors or extinguishers.
Fire exits are marked throughout. Have a look at the nearest one when you arrive.
If the alarm sounds, leave immediately by the nearest exit and assemble at the point shown on the fire notice. Do not stop to collect belongings.
4. Alcohol and Drugs
We do not have a bar on site, and you are welcome to bring your own drink.
Drink sensibly. Anyone whose drinking makes them a problem for other guests, our staff or our neighbours will be asked to leave.
No alcohol for anyone under 18. Any found will be confiscated.
Illegal substances are not permitted under any circumstances. Possession or use means immediate eviction and the police will be informed.
No glass around the games room or communal areas. Cans and plastic only.
5. Wet Kit, Sand and Boards
This is the one that catches people out. Sand and salt water do real damage to bedding and carpets, and we charge for it.
Wetsuits, boots and wet kit stay in the drying area. Never in bedrooms, never on radiators, never over bannisters.
Rinse your kit at the outside taps before you bring it back in.
Boards live in the board store. Not in rooms, not in corridors, not in stairwells.
Rinse off and change out of wet gear before going up to the rooms.
Sand-covered feet on stairs and carpets is the main cause of soilage charges. Please use the outside taps.
6. Rooms
Please treat the rooms as you would want to find them.
No moving beds, mattresses or furniture between rooms.
Do not stick anything to the walls.
Report any damage or breakage to the Lodge Host straight away. Accidents happen and we would far rather know.
Last one out of a room: lights off, windows shut, heating off, door locked.
No eating hot food in bedrooms.
7. Communal Areas and Games Room
Both communal areas and the games room are shared by everyone in the building. No one group has exclusive use unless it has been booked.
The pool table and table football are free to use. Please look after them, and no drinks on the pool table.
Clear up after yourselves. Plates, cups and rubbish to the right places.
Games room closes at quiet hours.
8. Meals and Kitchen
Meals are served in the dining area at the times posted on the noticeboard. Please be on time so the kitchen can run properly.
The kitchen is staff only. If you need something, ask.
Dietary requirements must be confirmed in advance so we can shop and cater properly.
Guest fridge space is available. Label anything you leave in it.
9. Keys, Security and Visitors
Keys are your responsibility. Lost keys are chargeable.
Do not prop external doors open, and do not let people you do not know into the building.
Overnight visitors are not permitted. Only those named on the booking may stay.
Day visitors must be signed in at reception and must leave by 9:00pm.
10. Parking
One on-site parking space is allocated per group as standard. Additional spaces can be arranged in advance.
Park only in the allocated space. Do not block the entrance, the neighbours or the fire route.
Vehicles and their contents are left at your own risk.
11. Groups and Under 18s
Every group must have a named Group Leader on site and contactable at all times.
Supervision of anyone under 18 is the responsibility of the group, not the lodge. Our staff do not supervise or provide pastoral care.
Group Leaders are responsible for their group's conduct, including during quiet hours and around the town.
Please make sure everyone in your group knows the fire exits and the assembly point.
12. In the Water
Only surf at lifeguarded beaches, between the flags, during patrolled hours.
Never surf alone, and never after drinking.
If you are on a lesson, listen to your coach and stay in the area they set. If you want to leave the session, tell them first.
Check the tide and conditions before you go out. Ask us if you are unsure, we would rather you did.
Tell us before you head out for a dawn or evening session so we know where people are.
13. Respect
Treat other guests, our staff and our neighbours decently. That is the whole rule.
Abusive, threatening or discriminatory behaviour will end your stay immediately, with no refund.
If something is not right, tell the Lodge Host while you are here so we can fix it.
